What is the Big Get Together?

It’s an opportunity to Get Together with your friends or family and have some fun – and one of the easiest ways to raise money for local hospice care. St Raphael’s Hospice has joined up with other hospices across the South East to invite you to be part of The Big Get Together in October; all you have to do is ask your guests to make a donation that will go straight towards providing hospice care in your local community. You could invite the family around for a barbeque; hold a cocktails and canapés evening; watch films and eat pizza in your PJs; dance like divas or simply raise the roof with a good old-fashioned gossip; hold a Halloween themed get together in October; a bonfire party in November; a Christmas themed soiree in December or a New Year Get Together in January! You can be as sophisticated or silly as you like!

Why should I hold my own Big Get Together?

Because all money raised at your Big Get Together goes straight to St Raphael’s Hospice. But the best part is you decide what sort of hospice-tality you offer, it couldn’t be easier! It could be the perfect way to celebrate a special person, on a special date, in a way that is fitting to celebrate their life whilst enjoying the company of your friends and family.

When should I hold my Big Get Together?

Well, that’s up to you too! You can join thousands of other people and hold your gathering in October, during Hospice Care Week (9-15 October), or if your Get Together will be to remember a loved one, you can choose a date that is more memorable to you.

About St Raphael’s Hospice

A safe and reassuring lifeline; a service that is free of charge to all of our community.

This year marks 30 years of St Raphael’s Hospice providing peace, care and support to people with terminal illness in Sutton and Merton.

Illness puts a huge strain on individuals and families and at St Raphael’s we are focused on supporting the patients under our care as well as friends and loved ones. A hospice like ours is different to a hospital practically, emotionally and environmentally. It is a place where you are more likely to see smiles than tears as our staff and volunteers strive to make wishes come true.

Our medical, nursing and support staff do everything possible to relieve pain and sustain quality of life, following the ethos of Dame Cicely Saunders that ‘you matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can, to not only help you die peacefully, but to live until you die.’ In each case the hospice care provided, either on our In-Patient Ward & Jubilee Therapy Centre or by our Hospice@Home and Community teams, is tailored to the needs and wishes of each individual.

When St Raphael’s opened in 1987, it was the parents and grand-parents of todays patients who helped create and support a hospice for their local area. Today we are caring for over 1,000 patients and their loved ones within Sutton and Merton every year. Just as it was then, all our services are provided free of charge and 80% of our running costs rely on charity fundraising, donations and legacies. Support from the children and grand-children of today’s patients, as well as the rest of our fantastic local community, is vital to ensure we can continue providing specialist palliative care for generations to come.

How Your Support Helps

Your support really will make a difference and help us to continue providing hospice care to the people of Sutton and Merton.

  • £2,500 will pay for the hospice bereavement service for 1 month.
  • £571 will pay for the total running costs of the Hospice for 1 hour.
  • £80 will pay to re-supply a room’s bedding.
  • £30 will run the hospice bereavement service for 1 hour.
  • £15 will pay for a specialist nurse for 1 hour.

How to Pay your money in

There are several ways to pay in the money you and your guests raise from your Big Get Together:

  • Pop in to the office and see us!
  • Pay the money raised in via your VirginMoneyGIving or JustGiving page, if you created one.
  • Call us on 0208 254 2450 and pay in using your credit or debit card
