What is the Big Get Together?

It’s an opportunity to Get Together with your friends or family and have some fun – and one of the easiest ways to raise money for local hospice care. Pilgrims Hospices has joined up with other hospices across the South East to invite you to be part of The Big Get Together in October; all you have to do is ask your guests to make a donation that will go straight towards providing hospice care in your local community. You could invite the family around for a barbeque; hold a cocktails and canapés evening; watch films and eat pizza in your PJs; dance like divas or simply raise the roof with a good old-fashioned gossip; hold a Halloween themed get together in October; a bonfire party in November; a Christmas themed soiree in December or a New Year Get Together in January! You can be as sophisticated or silly as you like!


Why should I hold my own Big Get Together?

Because all money raised at your Big Get Together goes straight to Pilgrims Hospices. But the best part is you decide what sort of hospice-tality you offer, it couldn’t be easier! It could be the perfect way to celebrate a special person, on a special date, in a way that is fitting to celebrate their life whilst enjoying the company of your friends and family.

When should I hold my Big Get Together?

Well, that’s up to you too! You can join thousands of other people and hold your gathering in October, during Hospice Care Week (9-15 October), or if your Get Together will be to remember a loved one, you can choose a date that is more memorable to you.

About Pilgrims Hospices

Pilgrims Hospices give care and comfort to over 2,300 people in east Kent coming to terms with a life limiting illness. We support those people and their families to live well in mind and body.

Our research team informs nationally on end of life care and our education centre offers training to other east Kent healthcare professionals to support best practice on a local level.

Care is provided from our three east Kent hospice sites in Thanet, Ashford and Canterbury as well as in patients’ own homes and the community.
Our day services programme is available for people with long-term conditions to come when they need specialist day-to-day help enabling them to live well. This might be to manage breathlessness and fatigue, help from our occupational therapists, complementary therapists, art and music therapy, counsellors, social workers and more.

All our care is provided free, it costs us £14,000,000 a year to run our three hospices and services and we have to raise 77% of our funding from the local community. Without the support of our local communities we couldn’t be there when people really need our help.

How Your Support Helps

Your support makes such a difference and helps us provide hospice care to the people of east Kent.

  • It costs just over £10,000 each day to run each of our hospices full range of services
  • It costs £1,000 for a patient to be cared for in their own homes
  • £500 could pay for a hospice bed for a day
  • £35 could pay for complementary therapies for patients and their carers
  • £20 could pay for a physio therapy session to help someone stay as active as possible for as long as possible

There are several ways to pay in the money you and your guests raise from your Big Get Together:
